Sunrise, that Imke Schelleken-Bartels rode for the Netherlands at the 2004 Olympics and two World Equestrian Games including team gold at Lexington, Kentucky in 2010, is dead at the age of 27.

Imke reported that the Hanoverian mare was euthanized when “our very favorite Sunrise” was suffering difficulties.

Imke and “Sunnie,” as she called the German-bred mare (Singular Joter x Werther) and the horse of her life was one of the most successful Dutch team horses from 2006 through 2010.

Sunrise and Imke capped their career with gold in Lexington on the team with Edward Gal on Totilas and Hans Peter Minderhoud on Nadine that had been reduced to three with the elimination of one combination.
