MADRID, Nov. 26, 2021–Frederic Wandres, at the top of the Western European League standings, rode Bluetooth OLD to victory in the World Cup Grand Prix Friday, edging out hometown favorite Juan Matute Guimon on Quantico.
The German team rider and the 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding scored 71.895% for the win to head to the Freestyle Saturday and the prospect of adding more points to his campaign for a start at the Final in Leipzig, Germany next April. He has ridden Bluetooth, Duke of Britain and Hot Hit in three previous World Cup qualifiers.
Juan, who rides for Spain but grew up with his family in Wellington, Florida and the 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding placed second on 71.684% but topped spectator judging marks.
Germany’s Helen Langehanberg and Annabelle were third on 71.395%.
