THERMAL, California, Nov. 20, 2021–Aaron Janicki and the nine-year-old Heron, the first ever international event for both horse and rider, won the Desert Dressage CDI3* Grand Prix Special Saturday.

Aaron, of Mount Vernon, Washington and the KWPN gelding (Johnson x Bazuin) scored 67.511% for the win at the Desert International Horse Park. The pair were third in the Grand Prix Friday.

Missy Gilliland of Scottsdale, Arizona and Toledano XXXI, a 14-year-old P.R.E. gelding, scored 65.979% for second place with Jan Ebeling of Moorpark, California on Status Royal OLD with 65.106% in third. Only four of eight combinations in the Grand Prix moved up the Special.

Aaron, 28, competed at national levels beginning in 2017 before going to Florida for the 2021 winter circuit to train with former Danish Olympian Lars Petersen.
