HERNING, Denmark, Oct. 22, 2021–Cathrine Dufour and 18-year-old Cassidy won the World Cup Grand Prix Friday in what may be the last international championship competition for the partnership that is one of the most popular around the world.

Cathrine, 29, and Cassidy at 18 years of age the oldest horse in the starting lineup scored 77.553% for the victory to kick off the World Cup Western European League winter circuit. It was the pair’s first competition since February, 2020 as Cathrine focused on Bohemian whose Olympic and other successes success have boosted the duo to No. 2 in the world.

Both Carina Cassøe Krüth and Heiline’s Danciera, Danish Olympic teammates, who scored 75.474% for runner-up and Netherlands’ Dinja van Liere on Hermes in third on 74.921% were ahead of Cathrine and Cassidy until mistakes reduced their scores. Both combinations had mistakes in the tempi changes as well as others.

Germany’s Helen Langehanenberg on Annabelle also scored 74.921% but were placed fourth by calculation.

Dinja and Hermes, the youngest horse in the field at the age of nine, began their Big Tour career in April this year but performed so well they were selected for Holland’s Olympic team. However, bureaucratic bungling led to the pair being disallowed.

The Freestyle that will count for points toward qualifying for the World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany next April is scheduled for Saturday night.
