A total of 60 combinations–15 teams each of three riders and horses for a total of 45 and 15 individuals–will compete in dressage at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, beginning with the horse inspection Friday July 23.

Two days of Grand Prix will be held Saturday July 24 and Sunday July 25, with 30 combinations competing each day. For the teams, there is no drop score so all three combinations of each nation must complete the Grand Prix for the team to have a chance to move forward to the Grand Prix Special.

After a day’s break, eight teams for a total of 24 combinations compete in the Grand Prix Special to music Tuesday July 27 with a clean slate to decide medals. No individuals compete in the Grand Prix Special.

Individual medals will be decided among 18 combinations in the Grand Prix Freestyle on Wednesday, July 28. The 18 pairs will have qualified in the Grand Prix.
