GROTE-BROGEL, Belgium, July 2, 2021–Beatriz Ferrer-Salat won the CDI3* Grand Prix Friday to lead a sweep by riders and horses likely to be selected for Spain’s team for the Olympics in Tokyo in three weeks.
Beatriz and the 12-year-old KWPN gelding were awarded 73.696% for the victory to make her a clear favorite for what would be the fifth Olympics for the rider, aged 55.
Claudio Castilla Ruiz and Alcaide, a 16-year-old Lusitano stallion, placed second on 73.217% that if selected for Spain’s team would be the second Olympics for the pair, having competed at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Severo Jurado Lopez on Fendi T was third on 72.478%, Jose Antonio Garcia Mena on Sorento fourth on 72.239% and Juan Matute Guimon on Quantico fifth on 71.696%.
