BALVE, Germany, June 5, 2021–Jessica von Bredow-Werndl rode TSF Dalera BB to a career high score above 93% to capture the German Championships Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday a day after taking the Grand Prix Special title with less than 50 days to the Olympics.
Jessica and the 14-year-old Trakehner mare were awarded 93.025% by the all-German ground jury for her first national freestyle title to beat world No. 1 Isabell Werth and Bella Rose in both championship competitions. The duo’s victory in the Special was the second annual title, and also their highest score.
They received 33 marks of 10 including 10s from all five judges for harmony between rider and horse and for the music from the Hollywood movie “La La Land,” and interpretation. The judges were unanimous in placing the pair first; Ulrike Nivelle, a 5* judge, gave an artistic mark of 99.000%.
“Dalera and I are just in really, really good shape,” Jessica told St. Georg and added, “Now I’m going home, I watch the rides, see what can be improved.”
The 35-year-old rider and Dalera, ranked third in the world, won team gold and freestyle bronze at the 2019 European Championships as well as team gold at the 2018 World Equestrian Games. Jessica began international competition on Dalera at Small Tour in 2016 and moved up to Grand Prix in 2018. The pair’s top CDI scores to date are 81.652% at Grand Prix, 84.702% at the Special and 89.640% in the Freestyle.
Isabell and Bella Rose, a 17-year-old Westfalen mare, scored 90.975% for silver. The duo were top placed in the 2019 Europeans as well as the team and individual competitions at the 2018 Tryon WEG.
Dorothee Schneider on Showtime FRH were scored at 89.775% for the Freestyle bronze.
The final German Olympic selection event is scheduled for June 24-27.
