BALVE, Germany, June 4, 2021–Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and TSF Dalera BB claimed the German Championship Grand Prix Special Friday to beat world No. 1 Isabell Werth on Bella Rose in the head-to-head competition less than 50 days to the Tokyo Olympics.
The championship victory on a score of 84.882% for Jessica and Dalera was the second year in a row capturing the Special title and came a day after winning the Grand Prix.
The score for Jessica and the 14-year-old Trakehner mare, ranked No. 3 in the world, was the highest for the partnership–the highest in a CDI was 84.702% posted last month–but Friday’s result was from an all-German ground jury, not an international panel.
Isabell and Bella Rose, a 17-year-old Westfalen mare, scored 83.902% for runner-up, and 0.412% ahead of Isabell on DSP Quantaz on 83.490%. Isabell and Bella Rose led Germany to team gold at the 2014 and 2018 World Equestrian Games and the 2019 European Championships.
Dorothee Schneider on Showtime FRH placed fourth on 80.275% to complete the top four scoring above 80% as they did in the Grand Prix.
A couple of minor errors, Jessica said, “made it a little more exciting than yesterday. I’m happy with how great Dalera is. One can only be happy.
“It wasn’t as smooth as yesterday. But apart from the two hiccups, I’m happy. Powerful and light at the same time, that’s a combination that feels indescribable.”
Isabell said that despite a mistake in the one-tempi changes Bella Rose “was already rounder than yesterday,” and with two or three more rides will gain strength to be back in top form.
The Grand Prix Freestyle, also a championship competition, is scheduled for Saturday.
The final German Olympic selection event is scheduled for June 24-27.
