COMPIÈGNE, France, May 30, 2021–Carina Cassøe Krüth and Heiline’s Danciera won the CDIO5* Grand Prix Special but Denmark could not complete the Nations Cup when team mate Cathrine Dufour on Bohemian was eliminated. This Nations Cup was an important qualifier for Denmark’s Olympic team with less than two months to the Tokyo Games.
Carina and the 10-year-old Danish Warmblood scored 77.872% for the win after logging a personal best score of 77.000% in the Grand Prix to give Denmark a narrow overnight lead over Sweden. Sweden’s Patrik Kittel on Well Done de la Roche won the Grand Prix.
Cathrine could not get Bohemian into the arena for the Special so the pair was eliminated.
Juliette Ramel on Buriel K.H. on 76.681% was runner-up in the Special and her sister, Antonia Ramel on Brother de Jeu scored 74.787% for fourth place to give Sweden a seeming unsurmountable lead in the Nations Cup with the Grand Prix Freestyle to come later Sunday to decide the medals.
Charlotte Fry on Dark Legend on 76.106% led Great Britain to the silver medal position.
Maria Caetano and Fenix de Tineo on 70.574% and Rodrigo Torres and Fogoso on 69.872% put Portugal in position for bronze.
The Nations Cup here is the second in this year’s trans-Atlantic series. The first in Wellington, Florida in March was won by Germany. A combination of the coronavirus pandemic and an equine herpes virus outbreak in Europe earlier this year led to cancellation of two of the team events.
CORRECTION: An earlier version reported the score for Carina Cassøe Krüth and Heiline’s Danciera was a personal best. It was not.
