ORNAGO, Italy, May 8, 2021–Australia’s Simone Pearce on Destano on Saturday was declared the winner of the CDI4* Grand Prix to reverse results that had placed Austria’s Christian Schumach on Te Quiero SF in first after questions were raised about the breaking of a tied score of the two combinations.
Simone on Destano and Christian on Te Quiero SF were tied at 72.348% in the Friday Grand Prix. But Christian and the Totilas son were awarded first place and Simone and Destano, Australia’s top combination, were placed second.
Dressage-news.com Friday night queried the show organizers and the five judges about the tie-break. FEI dressage rules on tie-breaking procedures would have placed Simone and Destano first.
After there was no response, dressage-news.com followed up Saturday with a query to the FEI, the International Equestrian Federation that governs the sport.
The FEI said it would seek clarification from the show.
Two hours later, new results were posted declaring Simone and Destano the winner with Christian and Te Quiero second.
The change meant that Simone Pearce won both CDIs Friday–on Destano for the Grand Prix for the Special and on Amandori for the Grand Prix for the Freestyle.
