ABRANTES, Portugal, April 24, 2021–Spain’s José Antonio Garcia Mena debuted the Spanish-bred Divina Royal at Big Tour to win the CDI3* Grand Prix Saturday, just 0.131% ahead of Portugal’s championship team partnership of Rodrigo Torres on Fogoso Horsecampline.

José and the 11-year-old Hanoverian mare by Desperados scored 72.783% for the win and the first international competition since Intermediate B two years ago.

Rodrigo and Fogoso were awarded 72.652% for runner-up with three judges placing Davinia Royal first and two giving the nod to Fogoso. Rodrigo and the 11-year-old Lusitano gelding were on Portugal’s team at the 2019 European Championships that earned the nation a start at the Tokyo Olympics.

Fellow Portuguese Martim Meneres on Equador were third on 69.457%.
