KEYSOE, England, Oct. 10, 2020–Charlotte Dujardin and Mount St. John Freestyle won the CDI3* Grand Prix Special Saturday with a personal best score for the second day in a row for Britain’s top ranked combination and No. 6 in the world.

Charlotte and the 11-year-old Hanoverian mare were awarded 84.149%, easily beating the pair’s previous best of 82.979% set in June last year. The Grand Prix Special, the duo’s fifth in 2 1/2 years at Big Tour, will be vital at the Tokyo Olympic Games delayed for a year until next summer as it will decide team medals.

Charlotte and Freestyle (Fidermark x Donnerhall) posted a personal best 83.196% in the Grand Prix Friday that was the first international competition for the partnership since January in a year devastated by the coronavirus pandemic. This competition was the first CDI in Great Britain since March, with six events scheduled over the spring and summer canceled.

Gio that Charlotte rode to runner-up in the horse’s debut Grand Prix will compete in the Freestyle.

The Special score–that included 11 marks of 10, two more than in the Grand Prix–was the highest in the world since the European Championships 14 months ago when both Isabell Werth on Bella Rose posted 86.520% and Dorothee Schneider on Showtime turned in 85.456%.

Gareth Hughes and Classic Briolinca, a British team combination, placed second on 78.979%, also a personal best for the second day in a row. Carl Hester, Charlotte’s long time coach, was third on En Vogue on 78.425%. The 11-year-old KWPN gelding, owned by Charlotte, made its international debut at this show.
