Bernay, the nine-year-old stallion ridden by Australia’s Simone Pearce for Gestüt Sprehe, has died unexpectedly.

Bernay (Boston x Lord Loxley) was successful at recent German national Intermediate II and was being prepared for the Grand Prix later this year.

“I don’t know what to say, I can’t even comprehend that this has really happened… I’ve never felt a loss like this before and my heart is truly broken,” Simone wrote on her Facebook page.

“He was the most amazing, generous and talented young Grand Prix horse I could ever dream of and the dressage world and most certainly my world, is definitely a lesser place without his star-like presence in it.

“I’m so grateful for all the amazing memories we have shared together which I will cherish for the rest of my life!!! You were a star, a comedian, a showman, a friend and a true dancer.”
