HAGEN, Germany, June 6, 2020–Hubertus Schmidt and Denoix PCH won the Louisdor Prize warmup that re-launched Germany’s developing Grand Prix series while Isabell Werth on Emilio and Benjamin Werndl on Daily Mirror tied in the Grand Prix. The event without spectators was specially created by Hof Kasselmann as coronavirus pandemic restrictions that have shut down horse shows since mid-March have been easing.
Hubertus and the American-owned eight-year-old Oldenburg stallion (Destano x Pik Noir) scored 77.500% in the qualifier for the competition Sunday to seek a start in the final in Frankfurt in December of eight to 10-year-old horses.
Denoix is owned by Nancy Gooding of Plum Creek Hollow Farm in Larkspur, Colorado.
Holga Finken on Gino was runner-up on 75.877%.
The first event of the 2020 series that was launched in 2012 was to have been staged at this same show grounds during Horse & Dreams but was canceled along with other qualifiers because of the Covid-19 pandemic that shuttered horse shows since mid-March.
The new schedule is: Bettenrode July 8-12, Verden Aug. 5-9, Ising Sept. 4-6 and Oldenburg Oct. 29-Nov. 1. The final will be in Frankfurt Dec. 17-20.
Both Isabell and Emilio and Benjamin and Daily Mirror received a score of 77.567% from the three-judge ground jury. Dorothee Schneider and DSP Sammy Davis Jr. were third on 75.633%
Isabell had qualified Emilio as a backup to Weihegold OLD for the World Cup Final in Las Vegas where she would have gone for an historic fourth straight title on Weihegold but the event was canceled. Benjamin and Daily Mirror were also likely to have been invited to Las Vegas for their second straight World Cup appearance.
