Juan Matute Guimon tested negative for the Covid-19 virus, according to reports from the Hospital Universitario la Paz in Madrid Thursday.
There had been widespread speculation about the possibility of a coronavirus infection in the 22-year-old Spanish Olympic team hopeful since publication of accounts that a mutated virus had been found to attack younger people.
Spain has been hard-hit by the pandemic with 220,000 confirmed cases and 25,857 deaths, the second highest behind only the United States with 1,229,000 cases and 73,435 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.
