United States SafeSport has revised the code introduced three years ago that covers the behavior of members of 47 sports bodies, including equestrian, in the wake of widespread reporting of sexual and other forms of abuse of minors.
What it described as “noteworthy” revisions were spelled out in a document distributed by the U.S. Equestrian Federation Tuesday.
SafeSport was launched in 2017 as mandated by the U.S. Congress and set up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, home of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
SafeSport applies procedures of confidential reporting and investigation of alleged abusive behavior by members of sports that are essentially private clubs, and not American judicial processes. Individuals who are members of the organizations and found to have abused minors can be banned from the sport for life.
