WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 13, 2020–The final two weeks of the Adequan Global Dressage and Winter Equestrian Festivals were canceled by Equestrian Sport Productions that organizes the winter-long circuits at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
The events will be canceled following the close of competition on Sunday and based on recommendations of the U.S. Equestrian Federation and the International Equestrian Federation to combat coronavirus.
The final week of Global was to be the last qualifier in the world for the World Cup Final in Las Vegas in a month, but the championship was canceled earlier Friday.
Competitors from dozens of nations around the world compete at GDF and WEF during what is normally 12 weeks of competition.
“At the current time the threat is relatively low but after consulting with the USEF and the FEI, we have decided to cancel the final two weeks of competition in an effort to protect all involved with the competition and production at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC),” said Michael Stone, ESP President. “We encourage all members of the equestrian community to operate with an abundance of caution as we all work through this situation.”
“Friday Night Stars” at Global and the $137,000 Horseware Grand Prix CSI3* are going ahead as scheduled but both events are closed to the public.
ESP is also the organizer of the CDI3* at Tryon, North Carolina for mid-April that is outside the USEF and FEI recommended windows is proceeding as scheduled.
