GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Feb. 21, 2020–Germany’s Benjamin Werndl and Daily Mirror won the World Cup Grand Friday, the first victory for the partnership in 15 months.

Benjamin and the 16-year-old Westfalen gelding he competed at the World Cup Final in Gothenburg lasr April, scored 77.587% .

Benjamin stands second behind his sister, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, in the World Cup Western European League and could earn a start at the Las Vegas Final in mid-April. The pair last won Salzburg, Austria in 2018.

Charlotte Fry and Dark Legend, her 2018 European Under-25 Championship freestyle gold medal mount and on Great Britain’s team at last year’s senior European Championships, posted a personal best 76.413% to place third.

Denmark’s Cathrine Dufour and Cassidy placed third on 76.348%, reduced by a mistake in the first extended trot that received scores of four 3s and one 4 from the panel of five judges and then an error f course after the extended canter requiring a deduction.

Cassidy, that Cathrine rode at the 2016 Olympics and medal-winning performances at two European Championships, is 17 years old.

The Freestyle in this 10th of 11 Western European qualifiers to decide points for the Las Vegas Final is scheduled for Saturday.
