WELLINGTON, Florida, Jan. 24, 2020–Olivia LaGoy-Weltz and Lonoir won the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Friday with a career high score and first above 80% in the first competition in 18 months.

Olivia and 16-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding scored 80.495% for the win, a day after capturing the Grand Prix for the World Cup to be staged in Las Vegas in mid-April.

The score for Olivia of Haymarket, Virginia who took 2019 off to allow Lonoir’s feet to grow back after botched farrier work, surpassed the pair’s previous best of 77.285% posted in the Wellington Nations Cup competition in March 2018.

Juan Matute Guimon, 22 years old who two years ago moved to Spain for college and to pursue his dressage career, rode Don Diego also to a personal best of 77.950%. The result earned Juan enough points to move him into fifth place in the Western European League. A World Cup qualifier is being held in Amsterdam this weekend that could alter the standings.

Canada’s Lindsay Kellock on Sebastien posted a personal best score of 75.880%, the only rider in the World Cup North American League to have fulfilled the required three qualifying scores for the Final.

Lindsay and the 14-year-old Rhinelander gelding surpassed their previous best of 75.870% set at Devon, Pennsylvania last September.

Lindsay, 29 years old, was on Canada’s team on her Small Tour mount Floratina that captured Pan American Games gold in Lima last July and earned the nation a start at the Tokyo Olympics.
