AMSTERDAM, Jan. 24, 2020–Isabell Werth rode Weihegold OLD to victory in the World Cup Grand Prix Friday, holding off a challenge from Charlotte Dujardin on Mount St. John Freestyle posting a personal best for runner-up.
Isabell and the 15-year-old Oldenburg mare were awarded 83.565% for the victory on the way to completing qualification to go to Las Vegas to defend their three straight championship titles.
Charlotte and the 11-year-old Hanoverian mare scored 81.956% that eclipsed the British pair’s previous best of 81.891% set at at Hartpury, England last July.
The German superstar and Weihegold OLD are completing the required two starts in a World Cup competition to earn a start at the Final in Las Vegas in mid-April in a bid to become the first combination to win four straight titles since the event was first held in 1986.
Emmelie Scholtens on Desperado was third on 77.869%, a personal best for the Netherlands team combination.
The Freestyle to determine points to get a start in Las Vegas is scheduled for Saturday.
