WELLINGTON, Florida, Jan. 9, 2020–Steffen Peters and Suppenkasper won the CDI3* Grand Prix Thursday in the first competition in almost six months for the American world championship team silver medal pair, while Canadian team riders swept the World Cup Grand Prix.
Steffen and the 12-year-old KWPN gelding scored 70.826% at the opening event of the winter-long Adequan Global Dressage Festival and the first international dressage competition in the world in 2020.
Steffen of San Diego, California and “Mopsie,” as Suppenkasper is nicknamed, last competed at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany last July. The pair are in Wellington seeking to earn a start on the U.S. team for the Tokyo Olympics.
Great Britain’s Susan Pape riding Harmony’s Eclectisch in the Big Tour debut of the 11-year-old KWPN gelding placed second on 70.435%. Eclectisch, owned by Harmony Sporthorses of Kiowa, Colorado, has been competed by Susan at Small Tour only in Wellington since 2018.
Germany’s Michael Klimke on Harmony’s Royal Dancer, also owned by Harmony Sporthorses, was third on 70.109%, a personal best score in three years at Big Tour.
Jill Irving and Degas, on Canada’s Pan American Games gold medal team last summer, won the World Cup Grand on 70.391%.
Britanny Fraser-Beaulieu and All In placed second on 69.435% in only their second competition since giving birth to her first child last summer. Brittany and the 15-year-old KWPN gelding were on Canada’s Pan Am silver medal team in 2015 and on the Tryon World Equestrian Games in 2018.
Naima Moreira-Laliberté on Statesman, also on Cabada’s 2019 PanAm gold medal team, were third on 68.717%.
