BUDAPEST, Sept. 28, 2019–Sweden’s Patrik Kittel and Delaunay OLD won the World Cup Grand Prix Saturday to lead a group of 13 Western European riders getting a jump on qualifying for the annual championship to be held in Las Vegas next April.

Patrik and the 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding that he owns with the parents of his Australian wife, Lyndal Oatley, scored 75.000% in Delaunay’s first competition since the World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden last April.

Germany’s Jessica von Bredow-Werndl on Zaire-E placed second on 74.630% with Benjamin Werndl, her brother, riding Famoso into third place on 73.109%. Of the 21 starting combinations, 13 were from the Western European league.

The Grand Prix Freestyle to earn points is scheduled for Sunday with 12 of the 15 starting combinations from Western Europe.

Patrik on Eddieni, 10-year-old KWPN gelding, won the CDI3* Grand Prix on a score of 73.152%. Austria’s Ulrike Prunthaller on Bartlgut’s Duccio was second on 71.130% and Nicolas Wagner of Luxembourg on Quater Back Junior third on 71.000%.

This World Cup qualifier is the 13th of 16 on the Central European calendar with Belorussian riders Hanna Karasiova and Olga Safronova currently atop the standings to earn two places from the league at the Final. Neither rider is competing here.

The Western European league of 11 qualifiers kicks off in three weeks.
