MOSCOW, Sept. 21, 2019–Inessa Merkulova logged her first victory on Arums in capturing the World Cup Grand Prix Saturday on the 10-year-old Latvian-bred gelding.

Inessa of Russia and Arums scored 69.500% for the win in the fourth Big Tour start for the pair. Arums was competed by Inessa at Small Tour two years ago before Stanislav Cherednichenko took over the ride.

Hanna Karasiova of Belarus on Zodiak, current leader in the Central European World Cup standings, placed second on 68.304%.

Marina Aframeeva also of Russia on Marcus was third on 67.630%.

Inessa is known for her Mister X, the Russian-bred Trakehner gelding that competed at the 2016 Olympics, the 2014 and 2018 World Equestrian Games and five World Cup Finals. Mister X is now 15 years old and has not competed for a year.

The Grand Prix Freestyle is scheduled for Sunday to decide points for the standings in which the top two combinations from Central Europe will be invited to the Final in Las Vegas next April.
