DEAUVILLE, France, July 19, 2019–Australia’s Mary Hanna and Syriana won the CDI3* Grand Prix Friday for the first victory in only the third Big Tour event for the five-time Olympic rider who also placed third on Calanta.
Mary, 64 years of age, rode the 13-year-old Westfalen mare Syriana to a score of 71.239%, the first Grand Prix score above 70%. Mary began competing Syriana a month ago after Germany-based Malin Wahlkamp-Nilsson of Sweden began Syriana’s Big Tour career.
On Calanta, Mary was awarded 70.174% for third place. The pair have competed in Europe and Australia in the past two years, including winning the World Cup Pacific League but opted not go to the final in Gothenburg, Sweden last April.
Belgium’s Laurence Roos on Fil Rouge was second on 71.022%.
