NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia, June 9, 2019–Russian Olympian Elena Sidneva rode Fuhur to victory in the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday, posting a personal best score for the second day in a row on the 10-year-old Russian-bred gelding.
Elena and Fuhur (Fürstenreich x Nagnat) scored 77.100% to remain undefeated in the two World Cup events the pair have competed in this year with the goal of qualifying for the Final in Las Vegas next April. The score surpassed the previous best of 74.655% set last month and came a day after logging a personal best Grand Prix result.
The musical performance boosted the pair to second place in Central Europe that is allocated two starting places at the Final of the annual world championship.
Fellow Russian Regina Isachkina on her 2019 World Cup Final mount Sun of May Life also logged a personal best 74.925% to place second and earn enough points to go to the top of the Central European standings. Regina and the 10-year-old Rhinelander stallion competed in this year’s World Cup Final in Sweden.
Hanna Karasiova of Belarus on Zodiak, a Latvian-bred gelding, that competed at the 2018 Paris World Cup Final, were third on 74.600%.
Elena Sidneva competed at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and at three World Equestrian Games. She and Fuhur were on Russia’s team at the Tryon World Games last fall.
This was the sixth of 16 Central European League events leading to the Las Vegas Final, with the next qualifier scheduled for Sopot, Poland June 20-23.
