COMPIÈGNE, France, May 17, 2019–Callie Jones and Don Philippo kicked off the fifth year of the USA Young Rider European circuit Friday with the best ever result for an American combination.
Callie and her 11-year-old Hanoverian gelding scored 71.225%, the highest team test score by any American Young Rider pair on the the European circuit, for fourth place in the CDIY Prix St. Georges team test of 31 starting combinations from eight nations.
Kimberly Pap of the Netherlands on Vloet Victory was the winner on 72.696% with Elizaveta Lyban of Russia on Erantos second on 71.569% and Great Britain’s Rebecca Swain on Bon Jovi third on 71.471%.
Callie, who turned 21 years old 11 days ago and from Henderson, Kentucky and with Don Philippo the No, 5 Young Rider combination in the world, is competing in Europe for the second year on the official U.S. Equestrian Federation Young Rider tour that was launched in 2015.
Callie was placed first by Marietta Almasy of France at C with 72.059%, second by Great Britain’s Clive Halsall at M with 71.471% and seventh by Portugal’s Frederico Pinteus at E with 69.853%.
She won the 2018 North American Young Rider Championship individual gold and Freestyle bronze. Callie and Don Philippo began competing together as Juniors in 2016, incuding the North American Junior Championships before moving up to Young Riders in 2017.
Ben Ebeling of Moorpark, California on Illuster van de Kampert scored 68.333% for 14th place, with a tie for 16th place on Behlinger on 68.039% and Kayla Kadlubek of Fairfax Station, Virginia on Perfect Step.
The Americans are scheduled to compete in the Young Rider Nations Cup at Hagen, Germany June 11-16.
