Attorneys told the court his behavior in prison makes him eligible for a lesser sentence. He is serving his centence at Wakulla Correctional Institution in Crawfordville on the Florida Panhandle, 400 miles/640km from Wellington.

Lili Wilson, the victim’s mother, read a statement to Judge Jeffrey Colbath opposing a reduced sentence–“There has not been one day that goes by that I haven’t wished this had never happened. The loss that I feel is incomprehensible.”

Prosecutors argued the 16-year sentence was already less than the 30-year maximum he could have received, and therefore should not be reduced.

Judge Colbath said he will rule on the motion by April 4.

While owned by John Goodman, the polo club sponsored the World Dressage Masters in Florida in 2011 and 2012.

IPC is now owned by a partnership that also owns the Global Dressage Festival and Winter Equestrian Festival at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
