WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 13, 2019–Canada’s World Equestrian Games team combination of Jill Irving and Degas won the Adequan Global Dressage Festival CDI3* Grand Prix with a personal best score Wednesday.

Jill and the 17-year-old Hanoverian gelding which have been partnered at Big Tour for exactly seven years scored 72.565 per cent for the victory, the first since last June that earned the pair a place on Canada’s team at the World Games in Tryon in September. Ashley Holzer, the four-time Olympian for Canada, first competed Degas at Grand Prix in 2012 and Jill took over the ride in March, 2013 at this same Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. Ashley, now riding for America, coaches Jill.

U.S. Olympic and World Games rider Adrienne Lyle rode Harmony’s Duval to a personal best 71.565 per cent in the pair’s fifth start to place second with fellow American Charlotte Jorst debuting Deep Impact for third place. Adrienne and the 11-year-old KWPN gelding began Big Tour last month.

Charlotte Jorst of Reno, Nevada and Deep Impact scored scored 71.304 per cent in the Grand Prix for the Special that was the pair’s CDI debut since she bought the horse two months ago.

Deep Impact is a 16-year-old Hanoverian gelding that was ridden by Severo Jurado Lopez at the 2017 European Championships and the 2018 World Games for the top score for Spain that placed sixth to earn a start at the Tokyo Olympics next year.

“I don’t think there’s any limit to where we can go,” said Charlotte after the ride. “I think he’s a horse that we can try to earn a place on the team.”

Charlotte has been working with German trainer Ulf Möller based in Wellington in the winter managing the Helgstrand Dressage facility here. Charlotte bought Deep Impact (De Niro x Rubinstein) from Helgstrand.

Katherine Bateson Chandler of Wellington and Alcazar won the CDI3* Grand Prix for the Freestyle with a score of 69.522 per cent.
