TEMECULA, California, Mar. 1, 2019–Steffen Peters and Suppenkasper posted the 12th victory in a year of Big Tour competition when the American championship rider and the 11-year-old gelding won the West Coast Dressage Festival CDI3* Grand Prix Friday.
Steffen and Suppenkasper scored 74.435 per cent for the win in the competition that was staged a week after an event in the winter series at the same show grounds was wiped out by record-setting rainfall.
Steffen of San Diego, California who has been competing Suppenkasper since his longtime sponsors Four Winds Farm of Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang bought the horse in late 2017 as a 2020 Tokyo Olympic prospect and a successor to their string of horses that included Ravel and Legolas.
Steffen has competed at four Olympics, four World Equestrian Games and five World Cup Finals in which in 2009 on Ravel he became only the second American to win the title.
Julia Vysniauskas on Dream Diamond placed second on 67.130 per cent with Susan Martin on Natasha third on 66.261 per cent.
The World Cup Grand Prix had only one entry, Jennifer Schrader-Williams on Millione, that scored 65.804 per cent.
