WELLINGTON, Florida, Feb. 21, 2019–Canada’s Jaimey Irwin rode Laurencio to victory in the Adequan Global Dressage Festival CDI3* Prix St. Georges Thursday competing in place of his wife, Tina Busse-Irwin who was injured in a horse accident earlier in the week.

Jaimey, filling in because the 12-year-old Oldenburg gelding was already entered when the accident occurred scored 71.324 per cent for the win. Leif Aho of the USA on Classy Sinclair was second on 70.882 per cent with Canadian Ariana Chia on Fiderflame third on 69.765 per cent.

Tina, with her arm in a sling after her left hand was injured when kicked by a horse, watched from the sidelinesas Jaimey rode Laurencio in a competition for the first time.

Tina is,a top contender on Laurencio for Canada’s team for the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru in July. She had consulted further on the injury and said that so far it seems there was no break. Even if she is unable to ride again at Global before the end of the circuit in March, she should have a chance to make up qualifying scores with four CDIs scheduled for Canada before the Pan Ams.

And she appreciated Jaimey getting the unscheduled ride because his experience could help in training.

The victory adds a second win for Laurencio in sevent starts at Global this year.

At the Pan Ams in Lima, Peru in July Canada will be seeking to earn one of two team places available for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Teams at Lima include both Big and Small Tour combinations. Several nations will have teams there, including Brazil, Colombia and Mexico as well as Canada. The United States with its Tryon World Equestrian Games team silver medal performance has already qualified for Tokyo.
