AMSTERDAM, Jan. 25, 2019–Isabell Werth and Weihegold logged an easy win at the World Cup Grand Prix Friday in the first competition of the year for the German superstar and her partner seeking a third straight annual global championship title.
Isabell and the 14-year-old Oldenburg mare, the No. 1 combination in the world, scored 80.065 per cent for the 23rd victory in 26 starts since the 2016 Olympic Games where she earned her 10th medal to become the most decorated Olympic equestrian in history.
American Laura Graves and her Verdades accounted for two of runner-up places for Isabell and Weihegold and is seeking another showdown at the World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden in April.
Dorothee Schneider and Sammy Davis Jr., German team mates at last year’s World Equestrian Games, placed second on 76.217 per cent.
The Netherlands’ Hans Peter Minderhoud on Glock’s Dream Boy, the 11-year-old KWPN stallion, was third on 75.652 per cent.
The Freestyle to determine points toward qualifying for the Final is scheduled for Saturday.
