STOCKHOLM, Dec. 1, 2018–Isabell Werth and Weihegold OLD, her Olympic team gold and double World Cup championship mount, won the Top 10 CDI5* Grand Prix Saturday with a performance that earned at least five 10s.
The German superstar and the 13-year-old Oldenburg mare ranked No. 2 in the world scored 82.783 per cent, the pair’s best result since sweeping the European Championships less than 300 miles/470km away in Gothenburg in 2017.
The combination were awarded three marks of 10 for piaffe and two for passage-piaffe transition on the final centerline in the first competition for the duo since August.
World Equestrian Games gold medal team mate Dorothee Schneider and Sammy Davis Jr. logged a personal best 78.196 per cent to place second. The previous best for Dorothee and the 12-year-old German Sport Horse gelding was 78.120 per cent set at Salzburg, Austria a year ago.
Sweden’s three-time Olympian Patrik Kittel, a creator of this event that is the richest single dressage competition in the world, rode Delaunay OLD also to a personal best 77.652 per cent to place third. The previous best score was 75.413 per cent for Patrik and the 12-year-old Oldenburg gelding he owns along with Carol and Andrew Oatley, the family of his wife, Australian Olympian Lyndal Oatley.
German Olympian Helen Langehanenberg and Damsey FRH were fourth on 77.196 per cent. The 16-year-old Hanoverian stallion is owned by Americans Louise Leatherdale and Susanne Meyer.
Total prize money for this Saab Top 10 of the Grand Prix and the Freestyle scheduled for Sunday is almost a quarter million Euros/US$275,000, making it the richest single dressage competition in the world.
Isabell won the inaugural Top 10 in 2017 on Emilio, on which she is ranked No. 3 in the world.
