TRYON, North Carolina, Oct. 26, 2018–The Tryon World Equestrian Games delivered a total of 4.7 million viewers across NBC networks in the United States that the organizers reported was a record. Global media reach was put at more than 4.5 billion impressions in more than 65 countries.

Mark Bellissimo, managing partner of Tryon Equestrian Partners and CEO of Tryon International Equestrian Center that staged the WEG Sept. 11-23, reported 11 airings of equestrian competition totaling 65 hours–57 hours “live”–on the NBC networks of NBC, NBC Sports Network and the Olympic Channel in the United States.

The WEG that combines the world championships of dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, jumping, reining, vaulting and para-dressage is staged once every four years. The Tryon group took over the event with just 22 months to go when a Canadian entity that had been awarded the Games pulled out because of a lack of funding.

“Two of our core goals for hosting the WEG were to introduce equestrian sport to a broader U.S. audience and to promote sponsorship within the sport,” Mark said in releasing the coverage details.

“This level of viewership exceeded our expectations and will position us to attract even greater levels of sponsorship. We are incredibly thankful to NBC Sports for continuing to see the value of covering equestrian sport and for partnering with us on the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games with an investment of more than 60 hours of unprecedented coverage.

“The 4.7 million unique domestic viewers are a testament to the increasing level of interest people have for horse sport and an important milestone in our mission to grow the equestrian industry.”
