HERNING, Denmark, Oct. 20, 2018–Helen Langehanenberg of Germany and Damsey FRH won the World Cup Grand Prix Saturday to kick off the Western European League series of 10 indoor events leading to the World Cup Final next April.
Helen and the 16-year-old Hanoverian stallion owned by Americans Louise Leatherdale and Susanne Meyer scored 75.652 per cent for the win, the first since returning in July from a five-month baby break. Helen was World Cup champion on Damon Hill in 2013.
Sweden’s seven-time Olympian Tinne Vilhelmson Silfvén and Don Auriello placed second on 74.065 per cent. Don Auriello returned to competition in June this year after recovering from an injury that kept the Hanoverian gelding, now 16 years old, out of the show ring following the 2016 Rio Olympics. Tinne and Don Auriello also competed at the 2012 Olympics and the 2014 and 2018 World Equestrian Games.
Daniel Bachmann Andersen on Blue Hors Zack, that were on Denmark’s team at the Tryon World Games last month, placed third on 73.826 per cent.
The Freestyle is scheduled for Sunday to earn points to qualify for the final in Gothenburg, Sweden in April.
