EXLOO, Netherlands, Aug. 17, 2018–Charlotte Fry and Dark Legend won the European Championships Under-25 Freestyle gold Friday to add to the team bronze and individual silver for the first medals for Great Britain in three years of these championships.

Charlotte, 22, and the 10-year-old KWPN gelding scored 82.145 per cent for the victory with Germany’s Jill-Marielle Becks on Damon’s Satelite second on 79.265 per cent and Lisa-Maria Klössinger and FBW Daktari third on 78.010 per cent.

This month has been the most successful for Charlotte, based in the Netherlands with Van Olst Horses as recommended by Carl Hester, her coach when she was a teenager. In addition to her success here, she rode Glamourdale to victory in the seven-year-old division at the World Young Horse Championships two weeks ago.

“I trained with Carl when I was 14 to 17 years old, and then moved to Holland when I just turned 18,” she said. “Carl actually suggested I should come over to work with Anne Van Olst who is my trainer now, so he put this opportunity my way and I’m very grateful for that.”

She said that Dark Legend is a very nervous horse. “This is the first show he felt confident in the ring, so he peaked at a good time!” she said. “Today was a really good test, he couldn’t have been better, he really rose to the music and danced to it.”.

Her plans for the future are to compete at the Olympic Games some day, “but for now I just want to get my feet back on the ground and start training again.”

She led her team to the Under-25 bronze on Wednesday and followed up with silver in the individual competition Thursday
