DONAUESHINGEN, Germany, Aug. 16, 2018–Sönke Rothenberger will compete his Olympic gold medal mount Cosmo this weekend in a last-minute bid to qualify for the Tryon World Equestrian Games, along with team mate Isabell Werth giving German selectors a choice of three different horses for the championships.

Sönke and the 11-year-old KWPN gelding is entered for the CDI4* Grand Prix Saturday in the first competition for the Olympic and 2017 European Championship team combination pair since gold medal performance at the German Championships more than two months ago. The pair withdrew with an injury from the CDIO5* Nations Cup at Aachen, Germany last month.

Sönke, 23, and Cosmo have competed only twice since the Europeans a year ago, at the CDI4* in Hagen, Germany in April and the national championships in June.

Isabell, the most successful equestrian in Olympic history, has three horses that selectors will have to decide for Tryon, North Carolina–her 2016 Olympic and 2017 European Championship gold medalist, and two-time World Cup Final winner; Bella Rose that was out of competition with an injury for almost four years after leading the German team to gold at the 2014 World Games, and Emilio.
