EXLOO, Netherlands, Aug. 16, 2018–Jill-Marielle Becks and Damon’s Satelite won the European Under-25 Championships individual gold medal Thursday, a day after leading Germany to team victory.
Jill-Marielle and the 10-year-old Westfalen gelding scored 75.385 per cent for the pair’s second gold medal at these championships which Germany has been the most successful since their creation three years ago. This was the first Under-25 championship for Jill-Marielle and Damon’s Satelite, but the duo won European Young Rider Championship team gold, individual silver and freestyle bronze in 2016.
“If somebody had told me in April that I would win double gold at the European Championships,” Jill-Marielle said, “I would never have believed that. My horse got along really well today and we both tried to do our best. We succeeded perfectly. I knew that no stupid mistake should happen to us today.”
Charlotte Fry and Dark Legend took silver on 75.308 per cent a day after the British rider and the 10-year-old KWPN gelding led Britain to capture team bronze, the nation’s first medal in the Under-25 championships.
Denmark’s Victoria E. Vallentin on Ludwig der Sonnenkoenig captured bronze on a score of 74.000 per cent.
