HICKSTEAD, England, July 27, 2018–The Olympic team silver medal partnership of Spencer Wilton and Super Nova II won the CDI3* Grand Prix Friday in the final competition ahead of Great Britain naming its four combinations for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in six weeks.
Spencer and the 15-year-old British-bred Hanoverian gelding scored 74.152 per cent in only the second international competition in the past 10 months.
Spencer and Super Nova, four years at Big Tour that included the 2017 European Championships as well as the 2016 Rio Olympics, is vying with several combinations for one of the four places on the team for Tryon that is expected to include Charlotte Dujardon on Mount St. John Freestyle and Carl Hester on Hawtins Delicato.
Richard Davison and Bubblingh, 12-year-old KWPN gelding, posted a personal best score of 73.391 per cent to place second.
The previous best for the four-time Olympian and 1998 and 2002 world championships rider was 73.160 per cent set at Hartpury, England year ago.
Gareth Hughes on KK Woodstock was third on 71.217 per cent, the first international competition for the 12-year-old gelding.
