SYDNEY, July 19, 2018–Australia announced Thursday the nation’s team for the World Equestrian Games at Tryon, North Carolina beginning Sept. 11, after months of changing selection procedures.
The team:
Mary Hanna and Boogie Woogie 6
Alexis Hellyer and Bluefields Floreno
Kristy Oatley and Du Soleil
Brett Parbery and DP Weltmieser
The team comprises three veteran international competitors–Kristy Oatey based in Germany who has competed at four Olympics; Mary Hanna who travels frequently between her base in Australia and Europe with five Olympics on her record; Brett Parbery the reigning Australian champion with DP Weltmieser and the leading rider from Down Under at the 2010 World Games in Kentucky, and Alexis Hellyer at 29 the youngest member of the team and who has never competed outside Australia.
“It’s pretty amazing, I am a bit lost for words,” said Alexis who earlier in the day had won the CDI3* Grand Prix in Brisbane on Floreno. “It’s a surreal thing to have a dream and a goal come to this point at 29 years old. Flo is a young horse and he has an amazing attitude to work and he is super talented and we are impressed with what he is showing us so far.”
“We will grab the opportunity with both hands and run with it and make the best of it. I am so proud to be an Australian selected representative and so pleased with how far dressage has come since I started in it when I was 13.”
Reserves selected are:
Judy Dierks and Diamond Star, and
Shannan Goodwin and Aristede.
