LEUDELANGE, Luxembourg, July 8, 2018–Steffen Peters and Suppenkasper posted a personal best score to win the CDI4* Grand Prix Special Sunday to sweep all four Big Tour competitions and give the four-time Olympic rider the longest career winning streak outside the United States.

Steffen and the 10-year-old KWPN gelding was awarded 73.936 per cent to surpass the previous best Special result of 72.511 per cent in their first CDI competition in California six months ago.

Differences in the scores of the five judges–all placed Steffen and Suppenkasper first–ranged from a high of 76.596 from the USA’s Anne Gribbons at E to a low of 71.809 per cent from Evi Eisenhardt of Germany at C.

Denmark’s Victoria E. Vallentin on Ludwig der Sonnenkoenig placed second on 71.234 per cent with Fanny Verliefden of Belgium on Indoctro V/D Steenblok third on 70.809 per cent.

Olivia LaGoy-Weltz of the U.S. retired Lonoir after a handful of movements.

“Mopsi,” Suppenkasper’s barn name adopted from the label given by Helen Langehanenberg who trained the horse to Grand Prix, was credited by Steffen as performing a “great” Special.

“I rode the one tempis a bit too forward and had an expensive mistake on number 13,” he said.

“I had a really nice feeling in the contact and Mopsi’s energy felt even more controllable today.

“Christoph Umbach and his entire team did an incredible job at this show. We are looking forward to come back to Leudelange next year.”

With two victories on Suppenkasper–Grand Prix and Special–and two on Rosamunde–Grand Prix and Freestyle–Steffen logged the most straight wins outside the United States in his career, according to a review of more than a decade of results. However, a sweep of the the three Grand Prix classes in the Aachen, Germany CDIO5* for the prestigious Deutsche Bank Prize was on one horse, Ravel, and came three months after the pair won the 2009 Las Vegas World Cup Final, only the second American to take the annual global championship.

The results here come less than two weeks to the Nations Cup and CDI4* at Aachen, Germany that is the third and deciding selection event for the American team of four horses and riders to go to the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in two months.

Laura Graves of Geneva, Florida on Verdades, ranked No. 2 in the world; Adrienne Lyle of Ketchum, Idaho on Salvino; Kasey Perry-Glass of Wellington, Florida, on Dublet and Steffen of San Diego, California on Rosamunde have been named to the CDIO5* Nations Cup team.

Steffen on Suppenkasper, Ashley Holzer of New York City on Havanna, Shelly Francis of Loxahatchee, Florida on Danilo and Olivia of Haymarket, Virginia and Lonoir have been entered for the CDI4*.

Suppenkasper was bought late last year from German Olympian Helen Langehanenberg by Four Winds Farm of Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang as an Olympic and championship prospect in the lineup of top mounts that they have acquired for Steffen that included Ravel, Legolas and Rosamunde.

Steffen and Suppenkasper, with the barn name “Mopsi,” stayed in Caliornia to show on the new California winter circuit, West Coast Dressage Festival. The pair logged seven victories in eight starts.

He brough the horse to Europe along with Rosamunde to get him more experience and exposure, showing at Rotterdam, Netherlands last month where they placed third in the Grand Prix.
