ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, June 22, 2018–Edward Gal and his Olympic mount Glock’s Voice won the CDI3* Grand Prix Friday for the rider’s second victory at this major European competition but highlighted by an emotional and successful return for the first time since the Rio Games of Don Auriello that was ridden by Sweden’s Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfvén to runner-up.

Steffen Peters riding Suppenkasper in the 10-year-old gelding’s first competition in Europe with the American that produced several spectacular movements for third place, but also with wide disparities in scores by the judges.

Edward and the 16-year-old KWPN stallion were awarded 74.261 per cent in the dressage arena with not enough room to ride around the outside before the bell sounds and spectators seated in stands just a few feet away creating atmosphere.

Don Auriello, the 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding scored 73.174 per cent, and appeared to have fully recovered from injury to show off his trademark extended trot..

Tinne first competed at international Grand Prix in Florida in 2011, and has been a top competitor and crowd favorite at the winter long Global Dressage Festival in Wellington. Don Auriello was shipped to Florida this year so Tinne could work on bringing the horse back into competition.

Don Auriello was “so excited that I barely can stop him,” said the rider who has competed at the last seven Olympics, including the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Games with Don Auriello. “It’s great but I need to control the halts and the reinback–an expensive way to start.  But otherwise, it’s fun to have him here. He’s happy. He feels like he’s coming along now.

“It can get better from competing more. On the other hand he feels healthy… he wants to go, he really enjoys it.”

Tinne has scheduled the Falsterbo, Sweden Nations Cup event in three weeks as the next competition to seek selection for Sweden’s team for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in September, that would be the second world championship for the duo that were at Normandy, France in 2014. The pair have also competed in four World Cup Finals and two European Championships.

Steffen of San Diego, California and Suppenkasper that was bought from German Olympian Helen Langehanenberg last year as a future team prospect for Steffen and competed for the first time in California in January, scored 72.630 per cent–one score of 74.891 per cent, two above 73 per cent, one at 71.630 per cent and one of 69.674 per cent.
