BONEO, Australia, June 17, 2018–Brett Parbery rode DP Weltmieser to victory in the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday with the highest score for the pair in almost three years to wrap up the final World Equestrian Games qualifying competition for Australian-based riders that saw two combinations join the lineup of team prospects.
Brett and the Australian-bred 15-year-old gelding (Weltmeyer x Dutch Courage) scored 74.610 per cent for the win.
Alexis Hellyer on Bluefields Floreno, one of the two combinations to make the final selection lineup based on their score in the Grand Prix Saturday, placed second in the Freestyle on a score of 72.735 per cent. Rozzie Ryan on Jarrah R was third on 71.625 per cent.
Judy Dierks and Diamond Star, the other combination to earn a qualifying score in the Grand Prix, did not start in the freestyle.
The final lineup of horses and riders to qualify for the four places for the World Games in Tryon, North Carolina in September awaits the outcome of two European competitions over the next month. The only confirmed European-based combination is multi Olympian Kristy Oatley based in Germany who with Du Soleil has the highest scores of any Australian pair seeking a place on the team
The Australian-based pairs with qualifying scores are: Brett on Weltmieser, Mary Hanna on Boogie Woogie, Shannan Goodwin on Aristede, Alexis on Floreno and Judy Dierks on Diamond Star.
Australians based in Europe with at least one qualifying score and needing a second are Simone Pearce on Wladimir O.A., Briana Burgess on Sissi and Hayley Beresford on Rebana W.
