BONEO, Australia, June 16, 2018–Alexis Hellyer on Bluefields Floreno and Judy Dierks on Diamond Star earned scores in the World Cup Grand Prix Saturday that could qualify the two pairs for the Australian team for the World Equestrian Games in the last chance for locally based riders.
Alexis Hellyer and the Australian-bred 13-year-old stallion scored 70.478 per cent to win the Grand Prix while Judy and the 12-year-old Bavarian gelding scored 69.348 per cent for third place to give both pairs the two scores above 69 per cent to qualify for selection in the last CDI in Australia ahead of the world championships in Tryon, North Carolina in three months.
Brett Parbery on DP Weltmieser who had already qualified placed second Saturday on a score of 70. 435 per cent.
Alexis on Floreno and Judy on Diamond Star join Brett on Weltmieser, Shannon Goodwin on Aristede and Mary Hanna on Boogie Woogie as Australian-based riders with qualifying scores to be considered for the world championships held once every four years.
The scores obtained Saturday met team selection criteria after procedures were eased when not enough combinations met the original minimum requirements.
Kristy Oatley, based in Germany, on her Olympic mount Du Soleil already has the highest scores to qualify for the Australian team. Briana Burgess on Sissi and Hayley Beresford on Rebana W, both also based in Germany, each have one qualifying score with two more competitions in Europe over the next month to add a second result.
