CHESTER, England, June 14, 2018–Carl Hester rode Hawtins Delicato to victory in The Equerry Bolesworth International Grand Prix Freestyle Thursday for the first Big Tour win for the 10-year-old British-bred Hanoverian gelding that was initially appeared spooked by the atmosphere.
Carl and Hawtin Delicato in only their fourth Big Tour start were awarded 76.225 per cent for the win over Richard Davison on Bubblingh on 75.875 per cent. Three of the five judges placed Richard and his 12-year-old homebred first and two gave the nod to Carl and Hawtins Delicato. Charlotte Fry on Dark Legend was third on 72.500 per cent.
Carl and Hawtins Delicato competed in only one Big Tour CDI, at Windsor last month, before this competition that is being closely watched for contenders for Great Britain’s team for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in three months. Carl and the horse he owns along with Lady Anne Evans and Ann Cory placed second to Charlotte Dujardin and Mount St. John Freestyle in both Grand Prix at Windsor and here. Charlotte and Freestyle opted to compete in the Grand Prix Special here, which they won earlier in the day.
