CHESTER, England, June 13, 2018–Charlotte Dujardin and Mount St. John Freestyle won The Equerry Bolesworth International CDI3* Grand Prix Wednesday with a score just shy of 80 per cent in only the third Big Tour competition for the pair seeking to go to the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in three months. Carl Hester and Hawtins Delicato that began their world championship campaign a month ago were second.
Charlotte and the nine-year-old Hanoverian mare (Fidermark x Donnerhall) were awarded 79.652 per cent that surpassed the pair’s two previous Grand Prix scores of 75.512 per cent in the Netherlands in April and 78.587 per cent at Windsor a month ago and remain undefeated in five Big Tour starts.
The score for Charlotte and the mare that Carl Hester nicknamed “Mrs. Valegro” because she is not afraid and tries her hardest when she goes into the competition arena was the highest score for a British combination since the retirement of Valegro after the 2016 Olympic Games where Charlotte and the KWPN gelding won their second individual gold medal.
Carl Hester and Hawtins Delicato, 10-year-old British-bred Hanoverian gelding, scored 77.217 per cent in only the second CDI Grand Prix for the pair. The British Olympic team gold medal rider and Hawtins Delicato made their Big Tour debut a month ago. The horse had been competed by Charlotte Dujardin at small tour in 2017.
Gareth Hughes and Classic Briolinca were third on a personal best score of 74.435 per cent to wrap up the top placings for Great Britain.
Hong Kong’s Jacqueline Wing Ying Siu on Ferrera were awarded 67.543 per cent for the second of two scores required to qualify for the Tryon World Games in September. The pair attained the first qualifying result of 66.440 per cent at Hartpury, England last July. Jacqueline, 35 years old, competed at the 2006 and 2010 Asian Games and on Ferrera at the 2014 Asians, at small tour.
Charlotte Dujardin on Florentina won the CDI3* Prix St. Georges on a score of 75.235 per cent and placed second on River Rise Escarla on 72.647 per cent. Florentina is undefeated in four starts at CDI, beginning with the debut of the eight-year-old KWPN mare two months ago
