HAGEN, Germany, April 29, 2018–The 2016 Olympic rider Masanao Takahashi and Rubcon Unitechno on Saturday earned the second qualifying score for the World Equestrian Games, providing Japan with enough qualified combinations to field a full team of four at Tryon, North Carolina in September.

Masanao and the 15-year-old Rhinelander gelding scored 71.348 per cent in the Horses & Dreams CDI4* Grand Prix.

The pair had attained the first of two required qualifying results of at least 66 per cent when awarded 66.674 per cent in Lier, Belgium two months ago.

Rubicon was previously competed by Beate Stremler of Poland, and the pair were on her nation’s team at the 2014 World Games in Normandy, France.

Masanao, 36 years old, who rode Fabriano at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, is the fourth Japanese rider to qualify for the world championships so far that is enough to field a full team. The others are Kiichi Harada and Egistar, Kazuki Sado on Barolo and Akane Kuroki on Toots.

Correction: Masanao is 36 years old, not 46 as stated in a previous version
