NIEUW en ST. JOOSLAND, Netherlands, April 6, 2018–Charlotte Dujardin and Mount St. John Freestyle produced a stunning performance for victory by a big margin in the Outdoor Zeeland CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle Friday in the first international event for the British partnership.

The triple Olympic gold medal rider and the nine-year-old Hanoverian mare scored 81.450 per cent for the win a day after claiming the Grand Prix on 75.152 per cent in the pair’s opening salvo on their international Big Tour career.

Four of the five judges awarded the pair total marks above 80 per cent, the highest being 84.500 per cent from Mariette Sanders van Gansewinkel of the Netherlands.

The duo did not receive a mark of 10 as they did Thursday, but were awarded eight nines out of a potential total of 25 for the artistic portion of the performance.

Home town favorite Hans Peter Minderhoud on Zanardi placed second 75.510 per cent . Hans Peter and the 14-year-old KWPN stallion have competed at Big Tour for two years.

Fellow Dutch rider Diedrik van Silfhout on Expression was third on 75.185 per cent.

The debut by Freestyle (Fidermark x Donnerhall), owned by Emma Blundell and named for her Mount St. John stud, has been more spectacular than Valegro, the Dutch gelding that Charlotte rode to two gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics and individual gold and team silver at the 2016 Rio Games. The first Grand Prix result for Valegro was 73.723 per cent and their first freestyle five months later was awarded 79.357 per cent. The pair went on to become No. 1 in the world and set the world records for the Grand Prix, Special and Freestyle that still stand.

The 32-year-old rider and Freestyle swept the British national small tour championships last year and the Horse of the Year Show Future Elite Championship in October.
