WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 28, 2018–Spain won the Under-25 Nations Cup at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival Wednesday, with the United States taking silver and Canada bronze.

Juan Matute, Jr., the Florida-based 20-year-old who flew back from the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Sports Forum in Switzerland overnight to the ride on Spain’s team, was the top placed individual on Don Diego Ymas scored 72.294 per cent, the only score above 70 per cent.

Juan was partnered with Rodrigo Encinas Fuentes of Madrid on Van the Man that placed second individually with a score of 68.294 per cent.

Spain did not compete in the inaugural Under-25 Nations Cup in 2017.

The U.S., that won both gold and silver last year, placed second with a team of three combinations.

Molly Paris of Charlotte, North Carolina on Countess scored 66.706 per cent; Kerrigan Gluch, based in Wellington, on Bolero CXLVIII, was awarded 65.706 per cent and Natalie Pai of Wellington and Unlimited scored 65.441 per cent. Two scores for medals.

Canada competed with two teams, with the bronze medal going to Naima Moreira Laliberte, of Outremont, New Brunswick, and I Do Kiss on 67.882 per cent and Laurence Blais Tetreault, of Montreal, Quebec on Utah with 63.765 per cent.
