HERNING, Denmark, Mar. 11, 2018–Inessa Merkula and Mister X won the CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle for a double victory in their first competition of the year and a month before their fifth World Cup Final.
Inessa and the 14-year-old Russian-bred Trakehner gelding scored 78.495 per cent for the win after taking the Grand Prix earlier. Russia’s top combination competed at the 2016 Olympics, the 2015 and 2017 European Championships and are scheduled to go to Paris next month for their fifth World Cup Final.
Denmark’s Daniel Bachmann Andersen on Blue Hors Don Olymbrio scored 75.755 per cent for second place in their first freestyle since beginning Big Tour at this same show a year ago. The last CDI for the pair was eight months ago. Daniel and the 10-year-old KWPN stallion were also second in the Grand Prix.
Australia’s Kristy Oatley on du Soleil placed third on 73.325 per cent after Germany’s Bernadette Brune on Lights of Londonderry was disqualified.
