NEUMÜNSTER, Germany, Feb.18, 2018–Helen Langehanenberg, in her last competition before taking a baby break, rode Damsey FRH to a personal best score to capture the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday.
The 35-year-old German team rider and the 16-year-old Hanoverian stallion owned by Americans Louise Leatherdale and Susanne Meyer, scored 83.880 per cent for the musical performance, a day after winning the Grand Prix.
“This was maybe our best result ever,” Helen said. “Damsy felt great, he had the perfect mixture of freshness and motivation and he just performed the way every rider wants, the communication between us was really easy.”
The German Olympic team silver medal rider who was World Cup champion in 2013 earned 20 points for the victory for a total of 37 with two more of the nine Western European League qualifying events still to go.
She is expecting her second child so will miss the final in Paris April 10-15.
“I’m expecting a baby in June, so this was our last show before that and it’s the perfect result,” she said. “I hope to be back in the saddle again in July, though.”
German team mate Dorothee Schneider and Sammy Davis Jr. placed second on 81.565 per cent to boost the pair to second place in the standings behind Patrik Kittel of Sweden and assured her an invitation to the Paris championship.
Denmark’s Daniel Bachmann Andersen on Blue Hors Zack was third on a personal best score of 81.475 per cent to rank fourth in the standings, along with Sweden’s seven-time Olympian Tinne Vilhelmson Silfvén, who is competing on the Florida winter circuit. Daniel is coached by former Danish team rider Lars Petersen, who lives in Wellington, Florida and now rides under the American flag.
The fourth place finish for Great Britain’s Emile Faurie on Delatio with a score 78.765 per cent moved the rider up to eighth place in the current standings.
The next Western European qualifier is scheduled for Gothenburg, Sweden next week.
Dorothee rode Faustus, 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding, to win the national Grand Prix Special earlier Sunday, scoring 74.059 per cent.
